Dr. James “Jimmy” Alvarez was born and raised right here in San Antonio. He received his undergraduate degree at UTSA and then rode down I-10 to attend medical school at UT Health San Antonio’s Long School of Medicine to earn his medical degree. He would go on to complete his Internal Medicine residency followed by his Gastroenterology and Hepatology fellowship at UT Health San Antonio graduating in June of 2024.
Dr. Alvarez is eager to take care of the people and city that raised him and he looks forward to building long lasting relationships with his patients here at GCSA. His clinical interests include colon cancer screening, gastroesophageal reflux disease, liver disease, and inflammatory bowel disease. Outside of work, he loves spending time with his wife, son, and pets. His interests include sports like basketball (Go Spurs Go!), tennis, pickleball, and golf, as well as reading, exercising, and traveling.
