Dr. De Melo is proficient in all areas of GI with a sub specialty in endoscopic ultrasound, endoscopic mucosal resection and Barrett’s Esophagus. He most recently served as the Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Alabama where he was head of the endoscopic ultrasound program.
Dr. De Melo, who grew up and attended medical school in Brazil, is fluent in both Spanish and Portuguese. He completed his residency and fellowship training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. Dr. De Melo was drawn to medicine at an early age because it afforded him the opportunity to help others and to make a difference in his time here on Earth. “I enjoy directly interacting with patients and assisting them to the best of my abilities.” He and his wife Ana Luiza have two daughters, Gabriela and Sabrina. Dr. De Melo is an avid fan of international soccer and has enjoyed coaching his daughter’s youth soccer team. He also enjoys traveling with his family, especially spending time on the Gulf Coast.
